MISSION

The Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation was established in 2008 and is a 501(c)3 entity.

The primary mission of the Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation is to support the City of Johns Creek, Georgia firefighters and police who are injured in the line of duty and to assist their families if they are killed in the line of duty.

A long-term disability or death of a public safety officer always generates extraordinary expenses and financial hardships that put a strain on the public safety officer and his/her family. The Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation provides financial support, especially with unexpected expenses not covered by typical employee benefit plans. The JCPS Foundation provides critical funds, like funeral expenses, medical expenses, and other necessary resources, when a death or illness causes a significant financial hardship to a fellow Johns Creek Fire and Police officer.

The secondary mission of the Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation is to increase community awareness of the many programs provided by the Johns Creek Fire Department and the Johns Creek Police Department. The JCPSF works closely with both Fire and Police Departments to promote and support their numerous community outreach and educational efforts in the Johns Creek business and residential communities.

While the Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation is a separate entity of the City of Johns Creek, the JCPSF follows the city’s objective to “Be The Exception.” By encouraging local businesses and residents to support the excellent Johns Creek’s public safety personnel, our community will continue to enjoy the exceptional standard of living in one of the top safest cities in Georgia and one of the best cities to live in the United States.

Our Mission Is Key

“Thank you to all of the many residents and businesses who have made donations and who have attended community activities that benefitted the Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation. We are committed to support the brave and dedicated men and women serving in our Johns Creek Fire and Police Departments. Your contributions, encouragement, and support are invaluable in helping our Foundation provide aid and support to our Johns Creek public safety family.”

Sincerely,
Steven W. Broadbent

FOUNDATION ACCOMPLISHMENTS

The Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation works with our neighborhood residents, businesses, and corporate partners to provide funding and resources for programs and services that benefit the employees and families of the Johns Creek Police Department and the Johns Creek Fire Department.

The Foundation is proud to have supported the following efforts:

Family Crisis- The Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation has provided significant funds for officers’ spouses undergoing chemotherapy treatments and officers’ medical and funeral bills for catastrophic life events. The Foundation is continually building financial reserves for such unexpected situations.

Johns Creek Fire Department CPR/AED Equipment- The Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation expanded the City of Johns Creek’s community CPR/AED (cardiopulmonary resuscitation/automated external defibrillator) training with the purchase of 49 additional training and practice manikins. The Johns Creek Fire Department has offered quarterly CPR/AED classes for years but had to limit classes to 40 individuals due to the number of training/practice manikins. The purchase of additional training and practice manikins expands the group training and allows each student to have their own manikin for maximum practice time.

Johns Creek Police Canine Retirement Program- The Johns Creek Police Canine officers are a critical safety unit to the Johns Creek Police Department. The first canine officers joined JCPD in 2009. Since then, several canine officers have retired after years of dedicated service to the Department. In learning that retired police canines and all of their living expenses and medical bills became the responsibility of the handler, a local Johns Creek family foundation, in conjunction with the JCPSF, established the JCPD Canine Retirement Fund. The Foundation is now able to support John Creek Police officers by covering medical bills and end-of-life expenses for the devoted canine officers. The Fund has supported over $10,000 to the retired canine officers and police partners. Funds are continually needed as the canine officers retire.

Fire Officer and Police Officer of the Quarter- The Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation strives to acknowledge the great leadership and outstanding accomplishments of Police and Fire officers. The Foundation established awards for the “Police Officer of the Quarter” and the “Fire Officer of the Quarter.” Recipients are nominated and voted on by their peer groups each quarter. The Foundation funds the quarterly recognition ceremony for honored awardees.

Johns Creek Police Bike Patrol- In 2019, the JCPSF, through a grant awarded by Sawnee Electric, funded the addition of 3 specialized police cycles to the JCPD Bike Patrol Unit. The additional patrol bikes will support the ongoing safety of the city’s vast park systems. More specifically, the additional patrol bikes will be used in the north area, particularly Shakerag Park, and will a vital safety feature for the planned 195-acre Cauley Creek Park in north Johns Creek.

Police and Fire Officer Health Initiative- The ability for Police and Fire officers to respond to dangerous and stressful emergencies is critical to the safety of Johns Creek. The Foundation recognizes that the officers need a safe and non-public area with fitness equipment specific to the physical training needs of the work. In 2019, through a designated donation by a local Johns Creek family, the JCPSF established the Police and Fire Health Initiative and purchased specialized fitness equipment for a gym located in the Johns Creek City Hall building.

FOUNDATION FUNDRAISING EFFORTS

While the functions of the two departments are different, the Johns Creek Fire Department and the Johns Creek Police Department ultimately have the same goal- to keep the community of Johns Creek safe.

It's important to note that both Johns Creek Fire Officers and Police Officers, with their families, work together for the success of several functions that actively and generously contribute to the Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation.

Casino Night- “Casino Night” is the main fund-raising event for the Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation. The event is held every two years at a local venue. Everyone is welcome to attend the fundraisor as a sponsor or just have a night of fun and fellowship supporing the Foundation’s important missions.

Annual Chili Cook-off- Police and Fire officers square off at the “Annual Chili Cook-Off” where Fire and Police officers compete for the coveted “Best Chili Award." Funds from the cook-off are donated to the Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation. The public is invited to the event.

Johns Creek Finest 5K- The “Johns Creek Finest” 5k is a family-friendly one-mile fun run and 5K race held in the spring at Shakerag Park. The race is a prequalifying race for the Peachtree Road Race. Proceeds from the race support Special Olympics GA and the Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation. The public is invited to the event.

“No-Shave November” - “No-Shave November” is an annual event where the Fire and Police officers don’t shave their facial hair in November as a way of raising awareness and money to fight cancer. Participants donate a portion of the money they would have spent on grooming to the Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation.

“Battle of the Creek”- The annual “Battle of the Creek” is Cross-Fit fitness team competition that is sponsored by the Johns Creek Police Department. The 4th Annual “Battle of the Creek” was a huge success and was held at Newtown Park with proceeds benefitting Special Olympics GA and the Johns Creek Public Safety Foundation. The public is invited to the event.
